Registration for Artificial Insemination Training

Overview

This service allows farmers to register for free training on Artificial Insemination (AI). It also includes registration for training for private farmers for the on-farm AI programme.

Who is eligible?

Farmers who practice Artificial Insemination and Inseminators who would like to be trained should have the following:

  • A valid National Identity Card (Omang).
  • A Junior Certificate.
  • Knowledge about livestock production.
How do I get this service?
  • Visit the closest District Animal Production Offices and register for the training with the relevant supporting documents.
  • The Animal Production Officer will inform the applicant about the start of training and other details.
What supporting documents are required?
  • Certified copy of valid National Identity Card (Omang).
  • Certified copy of Junior Certificate.
How long will this service take?

Immediate.

Provision of Seeds, Fertilizers and Herbicides to Commercial Farmers Through ISPAAD

Overview

Commercial farmers who cultivate over 150Ha and use large sophisticated machinery and implements can access the following assistance from government: 

  • A 30% subsidy on the cost of hybrid or open pollinated varieties of seeds up to maximum of 500 Ha.
  • Farmers will be assisted with 30% subsidy on the cost of fertilizer up to a maximum of 500 Ha for the following fertilizer treatments; liming, basal or top dressing.
  • Farmers will be assisted with 30% subsidy on the cost of herbicides to control weeds up to a maximum of 500 Ha for either of the following operations; pre-emergence, post emergence or control of difficult weeds such as Cynodon dactylon, mokhure etc.
  • Seed is provided for varieties of major grain and fodder crops, sorghum, maize and cowpeas only.
  • The amount of seed issued to farmers will depend on availability, and suitability to the farming areas.

This assistance is available through the Integrated Support Programme for Arable Agriculture Development (ISPAAD).

Who is eligible?
  • Applicants must be aged 18 years and above
  • Citizens must have a valid National Identity Card (Omang)
  • Foreigners must have valid Residence and Work Permits.
  • Be able to demonstrate to the Extension staff that they own fields or have the consent of the owners to use such fields.
  • Must have proof of land accessibility (duly allocated or leased)
How do I get this service?
  • Fill and submit Permission to Purchase Fertilizers / Open Pollinated Seed / Hybrid Seeds/Herbicides, under ISPAAD form to the nearest District Crop Production Office (DCPO) for processing.
  • After processing, the DCPO will contact the applicant in writing concerning the outcome of his application.
What supporting documents are required?
  • Certified copy of a valid National Identity Card (Omang) or residence and work permits.
  • Certified copy of Landboard Certificate or Lease Agreement.
  • Quotations for items required.
How long will this service take?

One (1) day from the date of initial application.  

How much does it cost?

Applicants are provided with a 30% government subsidy on seeds, fertilizers and herbicides.

Provision of Portable Water to Clusters Through ISPAAD

Overview

Farmers operating as clusters can access assistance for the provision of portable water through the Integrated Support Programme for Arable Agriculture Development (ISPAAD). ISPAAD will, where possible drill/equip boreholes, or purchase existing boreholes. Immediately after completion, the boreholes will be handed over to Cluster Management Committees to operate and manage, as stipulated in the constitution. The boreholes will be used exclusively for provision of domestic water.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must agree that operation and maintenance of the infrastructure will be the responsibility of the Cluster Management Committee.

How do I get this service?
  • Visit the Extension Officer at the nearest District Crop Production Office with the relevant supporting documents.
  • The ISPAAD / Extension Office shall assess the situations as per its merits to ascertain if there is a need for the provision of water.
  • The farmers will be advised to have a constitution that will include agreement to undertake maintenance of the boreholes.
  • The District Crop Production Office shall then inform the applicants in writing about the outcome of the application.
What supporting documents are required?

Documented proof of a working cluster constitution.

How long will this service take?

One (1) month from the date of initial application.  

How much does it cost?

Applicants are provided with a 100% government subsidy with this service.

Project Appraisal

Overview

This service is meant to assist organizations and individual farmers who want an evaluation report for their project for several reasons. These reasons can include applying for funding for a new project, settling appeals and disputes, determining project viability and performance, and redirecting and allocating resources. 

Who is eligible?

Citizens & non-citizens.

How do I get this service?
  • Visit the nearest District Agribusiness Promotion Offices ​ for submission of developed business plans and historic performance records for existing projects.
  • Organizations and individual farmers will then use their final reports to address their specific problems.
What supporting documents are required?
  • Proof of residence (a certified copy of their resident permit for non-citizens).
  • A certified copy of a valid National Identity Card (Omang) for citizens
  • A business plan (for both new and existing projects).
  • Historic performance records (for existing projects).
How long will this service take?

Two (2) months from the date of submission of the business plan.

No cost.

Preparation of a Business Plan

Overview

This service is meant to assist farmers in developing comprehensive business plans. The provision of this service empowers farmers with business planning skills. When completed, the farmer submits a business plan to funding institutions or keeps it safe for future reference.

Who is eligible?

Citizens & non-citizens.

How do I get this service?
  • Visit the nearest District Agribusiness Promotion Offices for guidance on the development of the business plan.
  • Develop and submit the business plan.
What supporting documents are required?
  • A valid National Identity  Card (Omang) for citizens (certified copy)
  • A valid Residence Work Permit for non-citizens(certified copy)
  • Land Right Certificate (for leased or allocated by Land-Board authorities) (certified copy)
  • Proof of Land Lease Agreement for Land signed by both parties (if leasing) (certified copy)
  • Proof of Water Right Certificate from Water Apportionment Board (if applicable to the intended project) (certified copy)
  • A Land Suitability Assessment report by relevant departments(certified copy)
  • Relevant documents (including management C.V.’s for the employees of the project) if it is a start-up project
  • Past project performance accounts (includes inventory and value of assets) if it is for an expansion or resuscitation and;
  • Proof of Finance from potential financer

Approximately two (2) weeks depending on how quickly relevant documents are submitted.

Poultry Abattoir Support Application

Overview

This service assists farmers with the building of abattoirs for safe and hygienic processing of poultry. This is a package under the Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development (LIMID) Programme which is a government programme aimed at improving livestock management. The beneficiary is expected to have completed a project within two (2) years after approval.

Who is eligible?
  • Citizens eighteen (18) years and above.
  • Small scale poultry (broiler) producers.
  • A cooperative which comprises a minimum of fifteen (15) members
How do I get this service?
  • Fill and Submit LIMID 6 – Poultry Abattoir Application Form with the relevant supporting documents.
  • After registration, an animal production officer will contact the applicant in writing with details related to the status of his application.
What supporting documents are required?
  • Certified copy of valid National Identity Card (Omang).
  • Certified copy of Landboard certificate.
  • A copy of an approved constitution.
  • A copy of the business plan.
  • Quotations for the items required.
How long will this service take?

One (1) month if all required documents are submitted.
